Thursday Thoughts: you really want to know?

Hello Thursday. Is it just me, or has this week been really long already? And I’ve only been back at work since Tuesday! I am sooooo tired, and I don’t know if it’s just me, or whether it’s because peeps have been feral. I can’t decide if work has been a little trying, or I am simply […]

On Chafe: “Ode to Sudacrem”

On Chafe: “Ode to Sudacrem”

I was inspired after my run today by the memory of John Keats’ Ode to Autumn, a poem that we did to death at school. Those in Mrs Oldfield’s English class, I give you: Ode to Sudacrem – a poem about chafe. Pure classic literature, right there.   SEASON of heat and cloying humidity, Close bosom-friend of […]

The law of unintended consequences

The law of unintended consequences

I think I may have created an imbalance in the order of the universe: I’m really sorry, and I’d like to apologise. The thing is, I can’t find Oscar and I fear that he’s run off in the belief that he’s a superhero. And it’s all my fault. The consequence of involving myself in his […]

Open Letter to a Beginner Runner

Dear Beginner Runner, Easter is over and depending where you are in the world, the weather is either just warm enough, or finally cool enough to make the prospect of the great outdoors appear enjoyable. And here you are, at the beginning of your journey to running, eagerly anticipating that first breath of air in your […]

Stop Running

Stop Running

What happens when you abruptly stop running? Not the sort of stop running, when you’re puffing like you’re auditioning for a part as a very raspy engine on Thomas the Tank Engine. Or giving a raspberry a good run for its money on who’s the darkest shade of red. But the “you can’t run anymore because you’ve […]

Top Advice for Moving with Pets

I just counted and it’s a maximum of 5 weeks before we move. At 5 weeks out, you’d think we’d have a slightly more confirmed date, but the thing is, moving can ONLY take place once primary school graduation takes place and well, the relocation company are somewhat on the laid-back side of the helpfulness spectrum. When we […]

End of the Affair

End of the Affair

I’m typing this whilst wallowing in self-pity.  I have a running injury. Since my dalliance with speedwork a couple of days ago, when the hip flexor got involved, things became messy, and now it’s all over between me and running. WAH! I feel isolated from my group of friends, because it’s suddenly obvious they were my […]

Crowding out the hunger

Chaos in the Kitchen No Comment

So after my first week of quitting sugar, I have gained 1kg. I guess I did a good job of crowding out the hunger, hey! I’m not too woried about the gain, as the purpose of the exercise is to take back control of my relationship with food. And as I’m in the early stages […]

Run days are fun days?

Training Diary No Comment

Not necessarily the happiest minutes, but active minutes is good. Had a good easy 5km with Doodles, but hill repeats sucked. Or more accurately, I sucked. Legs on fire, light-headed at points and only going at a snails pace. But it was followed by a delicious “cauliflower base pizza” out of the IQS4life cookbook. Yum.
